What it will look like

You will use the Australian Bureau of Statistics site to create a number of graphs and answer a number of questions about Rouse Hill and other suburbs in Australia. You will identify and account for difference between communities in Australia.

Outline/Description of Task:

PART A = 15 Marks

  • Visit the Australian Bureau of Statistics internet site at www.abs.gov.au
  • Click on ‘Census Data ‘in left menu
  • Go to ‘Quick Stats Search’ for 2011 (lower right hand side of screen)
  • Type in Rouse Hill and chose Rouse Hill, NSW, State Suburb (SSC) and click on GO button
  • Using the information for Rouse Hill answer the following questions:

  1. How many people live in Rouse Hill?
  2. What is the percentage of males and females?
  3. How does this compare to Australia as a whole?
  4. Click on the ‘People’ link. Create a column graph in Excel to show Age Group Percentages in Rouse Hill compared to age group percentages in Australia as a whole.
  5. Describe some of the differences and similarities in Age Groups in Rouse Hill compared to Australia as a whole. What conclusions can you draw about the residents of Rouse Hill by looking at the breakdown in age Groups?
  6. Create a pie graph in Excel to show the SIX Major Countries of Birth for Rouse Hill.
  7. View the statistics on Religious Affiliation. What are the major differences and similarities in Religious Affiliation in Rouse Hill and in Australia as a whole?
  8. How does the Median Weekly Household Income in Rouse Hill compare to Australia as a whole? What does this tell us about Rouse Hill as a suburb?
  9. Choose TWO suburbs from the list below and view the Quick Stats for these suburbs and then answer the questions on the following page:
